How It Works
The module pairs an infrared LED transmitter with a photodiode receiver positioned side by side. The IR LED continuously emits a beam of ~940 nm infrared light. When an object enters the detection zone, the IR light reflects off the surface and is picked up by the photodiode. The LM393 comparator compares the received signal level against a threshold set by the onboard potentiometer. If the reflected signal exceeds the threshold (obstacle present), the OUT pin goes LOW; if no obstacle is detected, OUT remains HIGH. This clean digital output can be read directly by any microcontroller.
