The flame sensor module uses an infrared (IR) photodiode to detect electromagnetic radiation in the 760-1100 nm wavelength range - the signature spectrum emitted by open flames. When a flame enters the sensor's detection cone, the IR photodiode generates a proportional voltage signal. The onboard LM393 comparator processes this signal against a user-adjustable threshold set via the potentiometer. If the detected intensity exceeds the threshold, the digital output pin goes LOW (active low), and the status LED illuminates. Simultaneously, the analog output pin provides a continuous voltage reading proportional to flame intensity, enabling more nuanced fire monitoring and data logging.
