How It Works

The ACS712 module uses the Hall effect to sense the magnetic field generated by current flowing through an internal copper conductor. This magnetic field is detected by an integrated Hall sensor IC, which converts it into a proportional analog voltage output. At zero current, the output sits at approximately 2.5V (half of the 5V supply). As current flows in one direction, the output voltage increases above 2.5V; in the opposite direction, it decreases below 2.5V.
