The XL4015 module uses a buck (step-down) switching topology to efficiently convert a higher DC input voltage to a lower DC output voltage. The onboard XL4015E1 IC rapidly switches the input voltage on and off at 180 kHz, and the inductor-capacitor filter smooths this into a stable DC output.
